PS2 Emulation Release Date For PS4 To Be Revealed At PSX?

PS2 Emulation Release Date For PS4 To Be Revealed At PSX?

The fact that a special edition of Star Wars Battlefront comes with a selection of PS2 Star Wars games – Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter – has led to speculation that Sony is planning to roll out PS2 emulation on PS4.

That has now been confirmed by Sony. “We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation,” a Sony told Wired. “We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”

There is speculation that unlike the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility solution, the PS4’s emulation will be disc based, meaning you simply need to pop your old PS2 games into the PS4 to play them. It’s worth bearing in mind that the PS2 was backwards compatible with the original PlayStation meaning that the introduction of PS2 emulation on PS4 could allow us to play original PlayStation games on the PS4 as well.

It is likely that Sony will unveil details on PS2 emulation during PlayStation Experience, set to take place from 5-6 December, which will hopefully include a release date for the update that will bring PS2 emulation to PS4.
