MGS 5’s Cut Chapter Discovered: Is This The Reason Kojima Fell Out With Konami?
According to data miners who have been trawling through MGS 5: The Phantom Pain’s PC files, the game was supposed to have a third chapter which has been cut.
The cut chapter, which appears to be titled ‘Peace’, may have included other characters. That assertion is based on the fact that the data miners appear to have found textures for The Boss in the game’s files.
We won’t spoil any of MGS 5’s story details for you, but we will say that some have criticised the ending for being abrupt and not offering a satisfying conclusion. If there is indeed a cut chapter, this would explain why.
Given the well documented tensions between Konami and MGS creator Hideo Kojima, we have to wonder whether the pressure to get the game done and therefore to cut this content might have caused some of the problems between the two parties. It may have been a creative decision, of course, but it’s easy to imagine that Kojima wanted a lot more time than he was given to get the game done.
It will be interesting to see what else the data miners can discover.
