‘Making Payday 2 PS4 Version Better Than Xbox One A No Brainer’ Says Dev
While there have been a large number of games that are clearly better on PS4 than Xbox One, and yes, even one or two the other way around. you’ll also note that there’s been a tendency for developers to suggest that both versions are identical. Whether they are doing this to try and make sure PS4 or Xbox One owners don’t feel like they are getting an inferior version, or trying to avoid upsetting Sony or Microsoft, we don’t know.
It’s refreshing to hear that Payday 2 developer Overkill is taking a more honest approach, acknowledging that the two consoles are different as they prepare to bring Payday 2 to PS4 and Xbox One in June. Payday 2 producer Almir Listo told Videogamer that the studio intends to get the most it can from each console, and if that means they can make the PS4 version better than the Xbox One version, they won’t hesitate to do so.
“They [PS4 and Xbox One] are both going to be… I don’t know if I’m able to say ‘identical’, but basically we’re going to cram in as much as we can,” Listo said, in reference to the PS4 and Xbox One version of Payday 2.
“It would be unfair of me to say that they’re going to be identical, because if hypothetically speaking we can make the PS4 make better stuff than the Xbox One does, then why wouldn’t we do that? If we can take it up a notch, improve the frame rate a bit or whatever, why wouldn’t we do that?”
Indeed, it would seem silly to try and artificially limit yourself if you can make something better. Let’s just hope from a selfish perspective that it is the PS4 version that ends up better than the Xbox One version and not the other way around. History tells us that we’re probably going to be okay on that front.
