Has Rockstar Lied About GTA 5 Story DLC?

You might be surprised to hear that¬†Rockstar and Take-Two have said that there are no plans for any GTA 5 story DLC and that they’ve never made any announcements on story DLC for GTA 5.

We say surprised, because story DLC for GTA 5 has been mentioned multiple times by Rockstar since GTA 5’s release.

Take this Rockstar Newswire post from April 2014, in which Rockstar said: “later this year, look for even more additions to both Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V, including more holiday-themed updates, some very exciting Story Mode DLC and much more.”

Or, how about this Rockstar Newswire post, that had “GTAV Story Mode Updates” as a sub-heading, following with the text: “for those ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto V, we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas.”

Yet, when asked in an earnings call if the previously announced GTA 5 story DLC is still coming and when we could expect it, Take-Two’s Strauss H. Zelnick said: “No, we haven’t discussed any story-based downloadable content. We did talk about the Heists and they’ve been released.”

Rockstar also appears to be back-peddling on previously announced GTA 5 story DLC, claiming in a ¬†post on the Rockstar support forums that “we have not made any announcements for DLC in the Story Mode of GTA 5.”

As we’ve already demonstrated, though, Rockstar quite obviously has made announcements about GTA 5 story DLC in the past, repeatedly suggesting that it was coming. That it’s now claiming it never said anything about story DLC leads us to believe that the studio has cancelled its plans to release it.

That the company has seemingly promised something it is now reneging on is likely to be unsavoury for some GTA 5 fans, but even more so the fact that it is claiming it never mentioned GTA 5 story DLC in the first place. Rockstar and Take-Two seems to have forgotten how the internet works, because we can all see that it has.
