‘Drop Under 60fps & You Will Be Rejected’ Says PlayStation
Sony has told developers that it won’t except PlayStation VR games that drop below 60fps, as you can see in the image below, shared on Reddit.
Low frame rates and frame drops tends to cause problems with nausea in VR, so the fact that Sony is insisting developers meet a base level of quality when it comes to frame rate is good news.
“Frame rate is really important; you cannot drop below 60 frames per second, ever,” Sony’s Chris Norden told developers at a GDC talk, as reported by Gamasutra. “If you submit a game to us and it drops to 55, or 51…we’re probably going to reject it.”
“I know I’m going to get flak for this, but there’s no excuse for not hitting frame rate,” said Norden. “It’s really hard, and I’m not going to lie to and say it’s extremely easy…it’s really difficult.
“60hz is the minimum acceptable framerate. Everybody drill that into your heads,” he continued.
Norden went on to say that Sony will offer a VR consultation service to help developers improve their VR titles.
