In an exclusive interview with Play, Tecmo Koei COO and president Kenji Matsubara revealed the circumstances under which he could see the Ninja Gaiden series being adapted to work with Sony’s motion control technology sometime in the future. While he admitted that casual games would naturally rise faster and in greater numbers, he felt that so long as the technology is as responsive and accurate as Sony claims it could be used to make a motion based adventure for Ryu Hayabusa.

I’m very interested in the new motion control technology announced at E3, but we really need to know how responsive it is,” Matsubara explained. “I’m sure that for casual games these motion controls will be very popular, but for action games like Ninja Gaiden we need quick responses and if you swinging your arms around like you’re using a sword you will soon be tired.” This is of course a common complaint of hardcore gamers when it comes to motion controlled titles, but Matsubara believes that ways can be found around such issues.

“Maybe we have change the playing style and check the technology to see how quick it can be,” he suggested. “So, at first it will be casual games and then maybe hardcore games and we have to prepare for that and provide the games to satisfy that playing style.”
