Top 9 Funniest Games (In Recent Memory)
Funny games! Lists! Nine of them! Games that is! Not lists!
Funniest video games in the world! we cry, as if it’s something you haven’t heard before. But wait! Or, you know, don’t. Who knows?
Whatever it is, it’s a list of nine of the funniest games we could think of from recent times, available on PlayStation formats and judged on how funny we have decided they are. So no, there’s no Cthulhu Saves The World, Magicka Vietnam or anything like that. Though feel free to throw your incredible suggestions in the comments below. LIST, GO:
We’ve been reading the Reviews Of Others that have said things like ‘it’s needlessly crass’ and ‘it isn’t funny’. Well, hush down: it is crass, which is well within the character of the game, and it is funny. Anybody who doesn’t laugh at at least some of the interactions between Juliet and Nick (or the fate of her dad’s ‘scrote’) is doing a sense of humour wrong.
Saints Row: The Third
This game was made with us in mind. It has to have been. It even has the Carlton dance in it. Why Jason Rubin is speaking like the purple dildo was a bad idea and something that shouldn’t have been in the game is something we will never understand. No game has ever made us feel as much like we’re in an eighties action flick, either. Ah, Saints Row: The Third. You’re brilliant.
There was a bit, playing this, where our intrepid reviewer was made to laugh at an interaction on Portal 2. This attracted the attention of the Play team, and said reviewer then attempted to explain what had happened to made this sharp, loud exhalation of joy occur. His explanation fell very flat. This doesn’t mean Portal 2 isn’t funny, though, it just means explaining the joke is rarely any good.
Why did nobody bother with Bulletstorm? Is it because you’re all allergic to having fun and seeing an element of creativity thrown into your games? Or is it because you’re afraid of a few dudebros actually making you laugh, even if it’s mainly through creative use of swearing? Waggleton P. Tallylicker. That is all.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
“Well, well, well…”
While maybe not presented as an out-and-out comedy, if even presented as one at all, there’s enough about L.A. Noire to get it included on this list. Come now, you know why. Mainly because of things like this:
Dead Rising 2: Off The Record
There’s this, pretty much. Dicking about as an artform. DR2:OTR just edged out Just Cause 2 on this stake. Sorry, JCdos.
We know this is funny, because we remember it made us laugh. The problem is we can’t remember specific examples. In fact, all we could come up with was “the characters say stupid things sometimes”. But you know what? We don’t need to remember things exactly as they were – all we need to remember is the fact it did make us laugh. Therefore it’s Definitely Funny.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ohhhh.
