All the Lycra in the DuPont factory couldn’t help this lot be in any way entertaining. Play presents the heroes and anti-heroes that don’t quite cut the mustard
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN (PS2)
The Ultimate series was
supposed to be all kickass
in the comics. Then
Ultimate Spider-Man
comes along and tries to
beat everything with a wet
fish leaving a bad smell
and fish guts everywhere.
Does everything a spider
can, that man.
MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE (PS2)
Again with the false
advertising by using the
word Ultimate. Marvel
Ultimate Alliance played
exactly like the previous
X-Men Legends games,
but on the PS3 it had the
shiniest graphics this side
of a Need For Speed game.
DRAGON BALL Z: BUDOKAI 2 (PS2)
It’s a wonder how Dragon
Ball Z became so popular
since nothing ever really
happens in the manga
other than spiky-haired
goits shouting at each
other. In the games
there’s less shouting
but more rubbish
beat-’em-up action.
SPAWN: ARMAGEDDON (PS2)
Spawn’s cape is supposed
to be cool but in Spawn:
Armageddon it gives him
the worst double-jump in
the history of videogaming.
But that’s okay because
the rest of the game was
really good...
INITIAL D: SPECIAL STAGE (PS2)
We wish we could say more
than "it’s a manga about
cars made into a racing
game” but we really don’t
know anything more about
it than that. So we got
on the phone to the local
comics shop and the guy
there said “it’s a manga
about car racing." Oh.
WOLVERINE'S REVENGE (PS2)
Everyone’s favourite cigar- chomping,
hairy- chopped, chop-your-head-off-with-
adamantium-claws X-Man got to star in his own
rubbish 3D adventure.
Sasquatch might have
been in it though, we’re not
sure, but he’s pretty cool.
X-MEN: NEXT DIMENSION (PS2)
Actually a sequel to an
even worse X-Men fighting
game, Next Dimension
threw in more characters
from the comic in an
effort to make it
interesting. Shame it didn’t
make it fun to play in any
way whatsoever.
JUDGE DRED: DRED VS DEATH (PS2)
We may have a soft spot
for ol’ stony face and we
were eager to shoot up
Mega City One with a
Lawgiver and bring some
perps to justice. But then
Dredd Vs Death turned out
to be a rather shallow FPS
and we were sad.
HELLBOY (PSONE)
Honestly we don’t even
remember this coming
out. In fact we didn’t even
know Hellboy has been
going for so long. In even
more fact we’ve only ever
seen the film and that
was rubbish. This was
released way before the
film though.
DANGER GIRL (PSONE)
Danger Girl eh? She was a
right one for always getting
into shoot-outs and stuff,
she even teamed up with
a few other comic-book
characters in her time.
Shame she didn’t team
up with anyone who could
make her a decent game.
