PlayStation Political Debate Part 2: LIVE
Hello and welcome once again to the political debates in the run up to the PlayStation 3 Elections taking place May 6. The first round of the debates saw us discussing the domestic issues of PS3 dominance in the marketplace and how it could be achieved as well as the leadership qualities of our candidates Kratos, Nathan Drake and Sackboy.
Today we welcome three new candidates. Representing Militaires Sans Frontieres we have Solid Snake. Here on behalf of the Olden Times Party is Nathan Hale. And lastly here representing Fathers 4 Justice’s new political wing is Ethan Mars. Today’s topics will be concerned with international affairs beyond the scope of our home console. Let’s begin.
How will you be spending military budget and what role do you see nuclear weapons playing in those spending plans?
Snake (MSF) – I’ve been on the front line and seen the effect that war can have on people. When you make war about money and business things get messy. I would look to do away with private military companies and put the power to wage war back in the hands of the people. As for nuclear weapons, I’ve been fighting against the proliferation of nuclear armaments all my life and will continue to do so. Unfortunately, killing is just one of those things that gets easier the more you do it, but that doesn’t mean we should make it easier still.
Hale (OTP) – The only problem with this cover all approach is that you have no idea what might be waiting out there for us. We need to develop our weapons now in case some horrible force comes after us for no apparent reason and tries to wipe us out. Unilaterally dumping our nuclear deterrent is only going to invite such forces towards us.
Mars (F4J) – As a father I think we would all do anything we could to protect our families. If that means developing weapons of mass destruction or simply chopping bits of our fingers off I think we would all be prepared to do that.
Snake – You would chop off your fingers to stop a war? Is that really a sensible deterrent?
Mars – Who said anything about it being a deterrent? I would chop off my fingers for a paper in the morning. It’s just my thing.
International terrorism is a topic that concerns the nation. What would you do to help protect the PS3 from this threat.?
Hale – We have to have stringent border controls. Illegal aliens are the biggest threat to our safety and security and if we do not protect ourselves against this threat with tighter immigration controls then we’re asking for trouble.
Snake – Closing up borders is a pointless exercise. Those determined enough to attack us will do so one way or the other. The only way to really protect ourselves from terrorism is to be proactive and take the fight to them with preemptive strikes. I’m talking about small black ops units infiltrating terrorist bases and disabling their operations. We don’t even need to kill them. We just need to keep dismantling their operations until they lose heart. That’s the way to win.
Mars – Ultimately, if it means that our children will be safe I think we should do whatever it is the terrorists want us to do. If they say jump we need to jump. If they say hop on one leg we should do that. And if they say chop a bit of your finger off we should do that too. It’s for our own safety and security in the end.
Lastly, what do you think is the greatest threat to the security of the PS3 today?
Snake – We’ve talked about PMCs, nuclear weapons and terrorism, but the greatest threat to humanity is war itself. War has changed. It’s no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It’s an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine…
Host – I’m afraid I’m going to have to stop you there. If you’re just going to read verbatim from your manifesto then there really isn’t much point to this. Mr Hale, please.
Hale – Aliens invading the PS3 is the most dangerous threat we face and the only way to protect ourselves is with guns. Lots of guns. and nukes. That’s the way I would prioritise things if you elect me as your leader.
Mars – Children are our future and we need to keep them safe. If that means sending them far away from us then so be it, if that means bending over to the will of others then that’s what we have to do. I would go to the ends of the Earth for my son and I would do the same to protect the PS3 too.
Thank you gentlemen. That brings to a close our debates today. Please join us again for the third and final debate in the coming days. For now, have a good weekend.
