A Plan Comes Together

I had a planning meeting with Sony recently. Okay, I realise that that doesn’t sound particularly interesting on the surface, but what we talked about was: PlayStation 3 in 2008 and that, you should know, was very interesting indeed.
I can’t really talk specifics, but it’s safe to say that this really is going to be the year of PlayStation 3 – and that isn’t just hyperbole from a PlayStation magazine editor.
Most of the games I was shown have already been announced – Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and Motorstorm 2 were the biggest hitters, each proving that ‘second-generation’ PS3 development is well underway and that ‘games’ remain as important to Sony as they ever did before this obsession with PS3 as a multimedia hub began. Each of these should cater well for the ‘hardcore’, but Sony also seems to have the casual side of the market sewn up too, with the new Buzz! game and the SingStar/SingStore franchise.
On top of all this, some announcements regarding online gaming and content delivery are coming soon (sorry, I can’t be more specific) that really will have Microsoft scratching its head over how Sony stole a lead over Live and Marketplace services. Let’s just say there’s more to it than just LittleBigPlanet and Home…
I realise that without concrete details it’s hard for you to get as excited as I was about the line-up. Just take my word, though: if 2007 was a disappointment for you, 2008 is definitely the year that PlayStation returns in style. Just keep your eyes peeled for this year’s E3.
