Hey, you like Fallout 3, right? And you like pretty graphics, right? Yes, you sure do. Well, this is Rage, the latest game from Doom creator id Software and it's kind of a cross between Fallout 3 and MotorStorm and has the prettiest graphics this side of the apocalypse. It's out next year sometime. Check it.

The more we see of this game, the more we're liking the look if it. ModNation Racers, if you didn't know already, is Sony's latest 'Play, Create, Share' game but unlike LittleBigPlanet it's not about platforming or people made of wool – it's about cute, cartoony racing. You can customise everything in the game including the racers, the cars and, most importantly, the tracks. In fact tracks can be designed from scratch and shared with other players. There's no release date yet, we expect it early next year. We recommend that ...

Play caught up with Freestyle Games' Chris Lee to chat about the latest title in the ever-expanding Hero family, DJ Hero… Play: Could you tell us a little about Freestyle Games and how you ended up creating DJ Hero? Chris Lee: We’ve always been focused on music videogames. We developed a game called B-Boy, which was very much in the hip-hop music vein. We learned a lot from that previous experience and from working with Guitar Hero. We wanted to create something that blew out from just specific genres and opened up a whole remit of possibilities. And really the deejay was the one guy who could pick any record, any music, from an era, any part of the world and was completely unlimited. So that was really attractive for us, to almost use this an excuse to play all the music we really like.

…along with its Lust, Gluttony, Wrath and the other five circles of Hell you'll play through in EA Redwood Shores' Dante's Inferno. Play spoke to the game's producer, Jonathan Knight, about how happy he is to be going through Hell at work. Play: Dead Space was the biggest ‘dark horse’ of last year. Is EA Redwood Shores hoping for a similar reception for Dante’s Inferno? Jonathan Knight: I certainly would be pleased as punch with the kind of critical reception that Dead Space has gotten. Obviously, it’s an extremely high quality game, and everyone hopes for just one of those in their career. In some ways this is the next game from that studio, and in some ways we’ve got a bit of a tougher hill to climb now because expectations have been set with Dead Space. But I’m pretty confident that we’re gonna nail it. Although we try not to get too focussed on what’s going to happen when it comes out because there’s a long time between now and then, so we just obviously want it to be really good. We’re very, very aware that people pay a lot of money for these games and that expectations are high, as they should be. So we’re gonna try to knock it outta the park.

So, I went up to Rockstar last week for a spot of lunch and a chat last week. I also got to see its latest open-world epic, the western-styled Red Dead Redemption. I can report back to you that it looks like it's going to be amazing. Now, I can't really go into specifics here but I thought you might like to hear some of my impressions. Here goes. I loved the openness of the game world. It was refreshing, after feeling a little hemmed in by GTA IV's ...

This month’s Play has an exclusive interview with Tony Iuppa, producer on 256-player online extravaganza, MAG (a.k.a. Massive Action Game). As usual, we’ve not been able to cram every detail into the pages of the magazine, so here’s some extra bits. For the best bits, you’ll have to pick up the mag. The magazine, that is…

I just had some hands-on time with Terminator Salvation and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Despite being a huge fan of the first two Terminator movies, I can’t say I was looking forward to either the new movie or its accompanying game, but playing a few levels has actually changed my mind.

If you were directed to this post from the pages of Play magazine then you'll know exactly how Play's editor-in-chief was transformed into Sagat, but if not, let us explain. This image is actually taken from a cool feature on the official Street Fighter website called My Fist, Your Face that allows you to upload a picture of your face and have it superimposed on a Street Fighter character in a brief clip of in-game action. It magically animates the mouth and everything. The ...

I recently got a sneaky peaky at D3 Publisher’s comedy shoot-’em-up and was pleasantly surprised that it did actually made me laugh. At first the gags all seemed pretty weak, but towards the end of the demo we were introduced to a character called Alto Stratus. Alto turned out to be an extremely well executed piss-take of a Final Fantasy hero. He’s from a made-up game series called Penultimate Illusion and, as Matt Hazzard soon discovers, can’t actually talk. Instead he communicates via little text ...

In Play issue 176, on-sale 19 February 2009, we go in-depth with one of the PS3's most significant releases of 2009, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. As part of the feature, we chatted to various members of Naughty Dog but, due to time constraints, we had to cut an interview with Bruce Straley, Game Director of Uncharted 2. Still, here's a big dollop of it for your pleasure. Enjoy! You’ve opted to make Uncharted a series – what caused this? Were you all still yearning to explore this world once you’d finished the first game? The sun has not yet set on Nathan Drake, that’s for certain. We’ve just started to get to know him in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and we wanted to learn more about who he is. Boy do we ever – in Uncharted 2, Drake has fallen back into his old ways and again is operating out in the fringes, one rife with mercenary treasure-seekers and thieves.

January is a miserable time for gamers. If we look at the wider picture, the first seven months of the year are generally apathetic in this industry, giving publishers a chance to recover from the Christmas rush and begin to mount an assault on the following holiday season. Some games do crawl out of the woodwork, though, and this month's emblematic post-Christmas release is Pandemic's Lord Of The Rings: Conquest, a Star Wars: Battlefront-style third-person action game that is conceptually an exciting proposition. The Battlefront games ...

I just finished writing my review of Killzone 2 for Play and I only wish I could paste the whole thing all over the internet for the world to read because… because… well, I can’t tell you exactly why. I can say that Killzone 2… surprised me. And I can give you a few intriguing, totally out of context quotes from the review… “Very, very dangerous…” “We get a special, fuzzy feeling…” “…just didn’t feel quite right.” “…we kinda love them for it.” “So bad…”...

The great thing about Christmas is that you get some free time to fill with gaming delights, and probably some new games into the bargain. The downside is that a big chunk of that free time inevitably has to be spent with your family, unless you can persuade them all to go to Switzerland over Christmas, but that’s not always possible. But there is a solution. You can combine gaming time and family time – it is possible. However, you have to choose the right games. No matter how many times you drunkenly tell her she’s a ‘wonder woman’, your mum just won’t want to play Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe. But with the right kind of persuasion (sherry, probably) you might be able to get her to play something… anything. Anyway, I’ve compiled a list of games to try to get your family to play as an alternative to passing out in front of the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special. Good luck, and if this doesn’t work, just sneak out and go down the pub. By the way, you don’t need me to tell you to play SingStar or Buzz! or any of those really obvious party games with your family, do you? This list is all games that you might not immediately have thought of…

Having 'larged-up' my weekend via a series of Home conversations and ganders at the new trailers for God Of War III and Uncharted 2, you'd almost think that my time off was worthwhile. But alas, the two-day period was marked by a sad tragedy – one reported on by Gamasutra (via EGM). Yup, Konami is no longer using the MGS theme tune as a reaction to the legal threats posed by one Georgy Sviridov, the composer of a melody that bears a suspicious resemblance to Tappy's original Metal Gear Solid track.
